Going through the final weeks of the Autumn 2020 Term is a stressful situation. Exam, paper and project deadlines coming up can burn you up, so it is useful to learn how to deal with the situation in a helpful way. Discover 5 tips that will help you go through the final weeks successfully.

The end of the semester is always a stressor. As students scramble to complete all their deadlines before Holidays begin, they go crazy trying to cope with the pressures.

Consider the following tips as you go through the last weeks of the Autumn term that will help you finish the term successfully:

1. Put technology aside

It is crucial that you do your best to get rid of any distractions during these final weeks. The most common distractions are social media because they are easy to reach. A notification pops up, and Boom! Before you know it, you’ve lost 20 minutes sharing memes or checking how a friend you haven’t seen in a while is doing.

A useful strategy is to get off of Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Snapchat at least until your exams and projects are done. Leaving your phone outside of your study area, or deleting social media for a while if you feel tempted anyways, could be a good idea. Doing so will help you focus as you prepare for the final projects and tests you have to complete by the end of the semester.

2. Establish your schedule beforehand

Putting up a calendar with all the deadlines coming up, dedicating specific times in your week to specific content or subjects could help you not only visualize all you have to do and make sure you are able to do it all, but it will also help you avoid procrastination.

It is essential that you start with time to spare in order to avoid cramming. Try scheduling study times in small sessions over a long period of time. If you can commit to a certain amount of minutes or hours every day, you can help avoid leaving everything to the last minute.

3. Choose the right studying environment

Establishing an organized schedule and choosing the perfect study environment are the perfect complements to allow you to effectively focus on your studies.

The best way to make sure you are most productive is finding a place where you feel comfortable and relaxed and that allows you to concentrate.

Once you find the environment you feel your study will be most effective and productive, make sure you stick to it. This way, you will be able to get organized and be aware where everything is and when everything is due.
It is important that these study areas are separate from your “free time” areas and “rest” areas such as your bed or the couch. Take into account that what works for others may not work well for you. Find what works best for you and stick to it!

4. Use different study methods

Always studying the same way can not only be tiring, but it can also lead to distractions. Finding different study techniques will help you stay concentrated and interested in your study. Maybe you may even enjoy studying if you implement innovative techniques.

Try paraphrasing the material in your own words. Try making a bulleted list of all information that is important. Try using notecards to make flashcards.

You can even come up with your own methods. Whatever works best for you! Keep your studying sessions interesting and funny. Engage yourself in your own studies.

5. Try teaching the material

If you teach what you have to study to another person and they understand it, that means you are a true expert in the subject!

You can try teaching it with a classmate, friend or relative! If you can’t find anyone to listen to you, you can even try teaching the material to your pet. Even if they cannot respond, the mere act of teaching the topics aloud will help you realize what you know and locate the gaps in your knowledge once you compare what you shared with your notes.

Taking these tips into consideration will help you stay focused on your studies and make sure you successfully finish the term.
