Bachelor of Science in Materials Science and Engineering
The Bachelor of Science in Materials Science and Engineering in Engineering and Technology is offered by Imperial College London.
Program Length: 3 YEARS.
Subjects: 19.
Materials science and engineering are incredibly relevant to modern life. Each day we use thousands of manufactured items. This field of study is driven by a motivation to invent or improve materials to address and solve real societal problems.
In this degree, students investigate the processing, structure, properties, and performance of materials. This knowledge is then applied to the management of engineering projects.
Students will explore the understanding of the relationship between the fundamental structure and properties (mechanical, electrical, optical and magnetic) of matter. They will learn how to manipulate materials and develop new and improved ones. Students will have access to cutting edge equipment and tools.
This is a full-time, three-year program. In the first two years, students study modules that cover theoretical principles and cover a broad range of materials including, but not limited to, biomaterials, metals, alloys, ceramics, glasses, and nanomaterials.
Experimental work is fundamental to this degree. Students will be taught in laboratory tutorials and asked to participate in hands-on experiences to build their experimental skills.
In the third year, students will specialize in concentration areas of their interest.
